The City of Ottawa is undertaking the renewal of Bank Street from Riverside Drive to Ledbury Avenue. This work includes the replacement of underground sewers and watermains, and a full road reconstruction. The vision for the Bank Street renewal is to construct a functioning and safe arterial main street with a well-balanced multi-modal transportation network which will cater to vehicles, transit, cyclists and pedestrians.
Note that maintaining access to local businesses is a priority during this work. Please continue to support the Bank Street area businesses during construction. Everything is open and will remain accessible.

Traffic impacts and Heron Road detour
As expected, traffic in this area during construction is heavier than usual. The team is working hard to minimize disruption and post clear signage.
Traffic impacts include:
-
Heron Road remains closed east of Bank Street to Alta Vista Drive to facilitate underground infrastructure work. Please use the detour following Walkley Road and Heron Road, east of Alta Vista Drive as the alternate route.
-
Bank Street continues to be reduced to one lane in each direction from Riverside Drive to Collins Avenue.
- Beginning Monday, July 28, the Belanger Avenue westbound lane will be closed at Bank Street for five weeks. An OC Transpo detour will be in place for westbound bus routes using Ohio Street. Details to be provided at https://www.octranspo.com/en/alerts/ prior to the closure.
The City’s interactive traffic map and incident report are kept up to date – they are your best resource for City traffic impacts.

Support local businesses during construction
The contractor is going to ensure access to local businesses is available at all times and will be working with our local businesses to coordinate works so that customer access is not impeded. If a business has more than one access, it may occur that one of them may be blocked temporarily during construction, but this will be communicated in advance and signage will be used to direct customers and staff on how to access the location.
You are encouraged to shop locally and support our Bank Street and area businesses during this construction period.
